Acrylic on heavy duty pressed board. 2' x 4' This painting is part of a series called "Animals in our World" that talks about animal rights. "Turkey Hen with Shorn Beak" is based on a photo of a turkey hen who had been destined to become the center of a thanksgiving meal but instead was rescued from a factory farm by Animal Acres, located in Acton, California. Animals raised and used for meat or other bodily products receive less legal protection than any other animals in the country. They are therefore subject to some of the most horrific neglect and abuses that this country sees on a second to second basis. The common misconception that turkeys are simple and unsocial creatures is wildly inaccurate and with this and other paintings it is my hope, to try and focus eyes on the incredibly dynamic and intelligent nature of these, and other animals. It is why I no longer fund corporations that do not humanely treat their animals. Unfortunately, that is a long list, but hopefully, my money will do my talking.
